HTC, known for its great hardware and eye for design has done it again with a pair of new Windows Phones, both of which aimed at different groups. The Titan is the real showstopper of the two Windows Phone handsets. Shipping with a massive 4.7 inch display, the size a lone may be quite the turn off for some but more than welcomed to others. Only to be outdone by the recently announced Read more

Microsoft gets slammed with lawsuit for tracking the location of mobile customers

Just when you thought the location troubles in the mobile industry were finally over, Microsoft is now facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly tracking the location of Windows Phone 7 users without their permission. Apparently, when a user decides to turn off all location services on their device, Microsoft ignores the request and proceeds to store location data. Rebecca Cousineau, a bold Windows Phone 7 customer, claims the camera application in particular transmits the latitude and longitude coordinates of a device when in use. The lawsuit states Microsoft built the camera Read more

Verizon Wireless announced that the Motorola Droid 2 will finally get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread and all its glory. The carrier didn’t announce a specific date for the roll-out to commence, so Droid 2 owners should be on the look-out for an over-the-air software update. Android Gingerbread will bring a lot of new features to the handset. Many of these features aim to improve the current experience, rather than trying to add to it. Some examples include the new active task manager, which automatically kills any processes that Read more

Sprint-commission study: AT&T, T-Mobile deal would kill jobs

This isn’t much of a surprise given how adamantly Sprint has opposed the AT&T, T-Mobile merger but a new Sprint-commissioned study said that the potential mega-merger could lead to jobs losses. AT&T is saying that the merger could lead to up to 5,000 new jobs in the United States but the study, done by Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Economics & Public Policy at UC Irvine, said this is likely not the case. To no one’s surprise, Toshiba just unveiled its latest Android tablet offering, the Honeycomb 3.2, 10.1-inch AT200. When we describe this tab as ultra slim — we mean it. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 CPU, 5MP and 2MP cameras, and up to 64GB of on-board storage. The new slate Read more

What’s your favorite tablet?

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about tablets lately and I’m genuinely curious: What’s your favorite tablet and why? If we’re going by sheer sales numbers, I’d imagine many of you would say the iPad, as it has sold more than 22 million units and pretty much kickstarted this whole category. The original iPad also had the market to itself for nearly a full year (yes, I’m ignoring the Galaxy Tab). But now we’re in an age where nearly every company has a good or great tablet out. Nielsen just released the latest statistics on smartphone usage in the United States. Slowly but surely, smartphones continue to take over the entire mobile phone industry. Nielsen also broke down that 40 percent of smartphones to find operating system market share. Android grabbed hold of 40 percent of all smartphones. Right behind that is iOS with 28 percent.
